Discover our wood table workshop!

In short

Designing a made-to-measure table at VitaDeco takes place in six steps: a first conversation at the workshop or by video call, defining the dimensions based on the space and number of guests, choosing the tabletop (light oak, mango, acacia or reclaimed wood), then the leg (wood, metal or cast iron, central or at the ends of the table), followed by the finishing touches — allow 2 to 4 weeks for a made-to-measure finish — and finally delivery via a transport partner or collection directly from the workshop near Lyon.

How does creating a solid wood table at the workshop work?

At VitaDeco, every table project begins with a conversation. From your very first visit to our solid wood table workshop, we guide you step by step to bring your vision to life. Choosing your table directly at the workshop means benefiting from a personalized consultation, tailored advice, and the opportunity to see, touch, and compare the available tabletops. You become part of the creative process—from selecting the dimensions to choosing the finishes—for a table that is perfectly suited to your home.

Follow the steps below to discover how we guide you through the entire process, from the initial consultation to the delivery of your custom-made table.

Step 1 – Schedule your workshop or video consultation

To begin, the first step in creating your custom-made table is a conversation. You have two options to get your project started:

  • Book an appointment at our workshop in Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu, near Lyon, to see and feel the materials in person.
  • Schedule a video consultation, ideal if you cannot travel or prefer to discuss your project remotely.

This first meeting is an opportunity to discover the world of VitaDeco, explore the available wood species, and view a selection of tables we have already created. Whether in person or via video consultation, we take the time to answer your questions, understand your vision, and guide you through the first key decisions of your project. It is the ideal opportunity to lay the foundations for a table that truly reflects your style, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Step 2 – Define the ideal dimensions

Choosing the right dimensions is a key step in ensuring optimal everyday comfort for your solid wood table. At VitaDeco, we help you determine the length, width, and height best suited to your space, your lifestyle, and the number of people you wish to seat.

Thanks to our experience, we provide practical recommendations based on the layout of your room. To go further, you can also read our guide to choosing the right table dimensions. It can be a useful resource to refine your choice and create a table that is both beautiful and functional.

Step 3 – Select your solid wood tabletop

Choosing the tabletop is an essential step in designing your custom-made table. At VitaDeco, we offer a wide selection of solid wood species, carefully chosen for their beauty, strength, and long-lasting durability.

  • Light oak: timeless and warm, it is our most popular wood species.
  • Mango wood: with its rich tonal variations, it brings an exotic touch to your interior.
  • Acacia: dense and full of character, it stands out for its strength and natural beauty.
  • Reclaimed wood: unique and sustainable, every tabletop tells its own story.

Tabletops are available in a variety of shapes, including rectangular, oval, round, and square. Depending on availability, we present you with unique pieces that are ready to be selected or customized. Some tabletops are supplied in their raw state, while others have already been prepared. In either case, we guide you in choosing the one that best matches your vision and your project.

To help you decide between oak, acacia, mango or reclaimed wood, our guide which wood to choose for a dining table covers the particularities of each species in detail.

Step 4 – Choose the right table base

The table base plays an essential role in both the appearance and stability of your table. It complements the style of the tabletop while also meeting your practical needs, such as ease of movement around the table, the type of flooring, and whether the table will be used daily or occasionally. At VitaDeco, you can choose from a range of styles and materials to create the combination that best suits your preferences.

  • Wood: for a table with natural warmth and timeless charm.
  • Metal: available in matte black, raw, or brushed finishes for an industrial or contemporary look.
  • Cast iron: substantial and timeless, ideal for interiors with strong character.

You can also choose between a central base (practical and minimalist, offering more legroom) or end-mounted legs, which are ideal for structuring a large dining table. We help you find the perfect combination of tabletop and base, according to your style and the way you plan to use your table.

Wood, metal, cast iron, central leg or legs at the ends of the table: our guide which table leg to choose helps you make the right choice before your appointment.

Step 5 – Finishing and preparing the wood

Once the tabletop and base have been selected, it is time to prepare the wood. At VitaDeco, every step is carried out with great care to reveal the natural beauty of the material. The tabletop is carefully sanded before being protected with a finish tailored to your needs: a satin varnish, a matte finish, or an oiled finish, depending on the desired look and intended use.

Some tabletops are already prepared in our solid wood table workshop. If you would like to take your table home straight away, we can show you the models currently available in stock. For a custom finish, please allow between two and four weeks. And if you prefer to purchase an unfinished tabletop and apply the finish yourself, that is also entirely possible.

Step 6 – Delivery or workshop collection

Once your table is ready, you have two options: have it delivered directly to your home or collect it from our workshop. For deliveries, we work with specialist furniture transport partners, including Cocolis, which offers a reliable, flexible, and more environmentally friendly solution. We will put you in touch with them to arrange a delivery time that suits your schedule.

If you prefer to collect your table in person, we will be delighted to welcome you to our workshop in Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu. Our team will help you load your table safely and securely. This option is ideal if you would like to see your table one last time before taking it home, or if you live in the Lyon area.
